All Things Trees–Windbreaks, Wildlife Plantings and Snow Fences

An Example of the Effects of a Windbreak on Wind Speed

An Example of the Effects of a Windbreak on Wind Speed

A windbreak is a useful, environmental, and an aesthetic way to protect crops, livestock, wildlife, and even your home from heavy winds.  Windbreaks can be accomplished by plantings of single or multiple rows of shrubs, grass, or trees.

The Conservation District works with the Montana Conservation Seedling Nursery now for tree ordering.  You can find their inventory and order form here.  District staff will still assist with all the considerations for windbreaks, species selection, and planting plans.  Smaller orders that don’t qualify for ordering directly from the State Conservation Nursery may be submitted to the Lewis & Clark County Extension office and they will submit a bulk order to the nursery for landowners.  The phone number at Extension is 406-447-8346.

The District has available weed barrier fabric in varying sized rolls.  Please contact us for cost and availability.
